Basic qualifications for Police Officers with the Town of Milo.
  • At least (21) years of age
  • Excellent physical condition with weight proportionate to height
  • Sound Moral Character
  • Possess High School diploma or equivalent
  • Able to read, write, speak English fluently
  • Valid Maine operator's license at time of employment
  • Good driving record
  • No criminal convictions for or uncharged conduct involving murder, any Class A, B, C, or D crime
  • Ability to deal with people of all ages
  • Ability to provide a variety of police and public services
  • Ability to learn State, Federal, and Municipal laws, criminal procedures and their applications, conduct crime scene investigations and interview witnesses and suspects.
  • Ability to make decisions quickly, using sound judgment, without lengthy deliberation or consultation with others.
  • Possess or have the ability to learn scientific applications of police techniques and practical applications of psychology.
  • Have taken and passed based on the standards of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, the alert test given by the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
  • Successfully have completed the (100) hour pre-service school from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy or the full time officer basic Police School at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy.
  • Meet all entrance requirements and standards for acceptance into the Maine Criminal Justice Academy Basic Police School and/or licensing requirements for a police officer within the State of Maine as described in the rules of the Maine Criminal Justice Academy set forth by the Board of Trustees, as outlined in Appendix 2 of this Standard Operating Procedure.
  • Successful completion of an Agility Test, Oral Board Recommendation, Background Investigation, Psychological Examination, Chief of Police interview, Polygraph examination and physical examination.
